What a notary does, and does not do
A notary public verifies the identity of signers, makes sure they sign willingly and with understanding, administers oaths and completes the notarial certificate. Each act is recorded in a notary journal.
A notary does not give legal advice, prepare documents or choose a certificate for you. If you need help with the content of a document, an attorney or the office asking for it is the right place to start.
